Look of the Week!

Tullulah is closing the doors for good on Christmas Eve*, y’all, so stop by and say hello before it’s too late! While you’re there, take a look at all the cool fixtures and furniture…everything is for sale. There are some verrah, verrah lovely holiday decorations, as well as a fab sofa and plenty of lingerie, some marked down by as much as 75%.
The Shop Tart, desperate for her last fix of casual conversation with Kristy in the shop, stopped in last week and found Elizabeth Halbing, a social worker and State Fair Ribbon Winner in Amateur Cake Decorating. Because there was a slight chill in the air, she wore a sophisticated scarf and boots she scored at the most recent Kicks sidewalk sale for a price so impressively low the Shop Tart can’t even print it for fear you would die of envy.
And the absolutely necessary close-up of the duck-fabric skirt with a green lace overlay to save it from being, well, a skirt with ducks on it.
The Shop believes no outfit is complete without a large cocktail ring. Thank you for obliging, Miss Elizabeth!
Find some time before Christmas Eve to stop by Tullulah, where you will probably find the Shop Tart, sipping Diet Coke from Divine Foods and trying to figure out just how good of a deal she can get on those white feather wreaths. And trying to get the scoop on AnnaBelle (LaRoque)’s big plans…
In other news…
- Kicks is having a Fall and Winter sale. Sizes are going fast, so hurry!
- Everything in stock at LaRoque is 20% off. Happy Holidays!
- Don’t forget Simply Savory’s 15% case discount on wine (most places only offer 10% off cases). Stop in the deli for a superb lunch and pick up a case of wine on your way out.
- Belladea unpacked new pieces by Beth Bowley and Ella Moss. To make room, they added more items to the sale rack, up to 40% off.
- K.D.’s Treehouse will be open a little late on Thursday and Friday evening and, even though they’re normally closed Mondays, they’ll open the Monday before Christmas for last-minute shoppers!
- Looking for a way to donate time or money? Consider MIRCI (Mental Illness Recovery Center, Incorporated). They’ve been helping people since 1960 and can always use your help.
Happy Shopping and don’t forget to tell them you read it on the Shop Tart!
* A Note for Those of You Who Know and Love Kristy: The closing of Tullulah is a good thing for her and she’s looking forward to whatever comes next!

It’s hard to look cute when you’re pregnant. Well, unless you’re cute already, you just happen to be the manager of a fab boutique and current fashions allow for a little pooch. In this case, the pooch is very little. In fact, Bergen had to stand sideways and stick it out to prove it. Yes, the lovely manager of Mary expects her first bundle of joy in April! *Sigh* The first baby is so special… Nothing she’s wearing is maternity, but the layers work, n’est-ce pas?
That cardi is available right this second at Mary, where everything is 40% off until Friday, including denim. The Shop Tart loves those boots, too. They’re by Matisse and she isn’t sure if they’re available at Sophie Shoes right now, but there are similar styles - and all shoes at Sophie are 50% off. Her Diana Warner necklace was so pretty the Shop Tart had to take a closeup:
Speaking of that sale at Mary, the Shop Tart snagged an emerald green Trina Turk top, two new pairs of Hue tights, black and brown, and two pairs of Hanky Pankys - virtually impossible to find at 40% off!
She did not buy this Yoana Baraschi tunic with gorgeous feather detailing at the neckline. Maybe you would like to buy it and lend it to her once in a while?
And don’t you need a festive cocktail dress? This one is very flattering!
And wouldn’t a pair of holiday Hanky Panky’s make the perfect gift for that gift exchange party you’re attending? These are $28.50 a pair, but subtract 40%, and come in that cute little star box.

In other news…
- Wish in Five Points has two enormous clearance racks (50% off lowest marked price!) As usual, their full-price items are priced to please, like this gold brocade vintage-style dress for $24.
- From 2 to 7 pm today, Kicks of Lexington and Lola will help you shop for the men in your life. Frederick Jabber from Weathers on Devine Street will be there with men’s collections, sportswear and gift items. He’ll help you choose the perfect gift and provide gift wrapping and delivery back to Lola and Kicks. Enjoy light refreshments and pick up a few more items for your holiday party looks while you’re there!
- From 4 to 8 pm today, visit Britton’s for a Holiday Open House. Eat, drink and see what’s on sale!
- Max and Prissy is having a birthday! The entire store is 40% off. Join them for Cocktails and Cupcakes tonight from 5 to 8 pm.
- Tonight is a busy night. From 7 to 9 pm, enjoy appetizers, cocktails and 20% off the entire store at Charlie Mack. Look for fun giveaways, too!
- Purchase $100 worth of gift certificates to Gervais and Vine between now and Christmas Eve and they’ll throw in a $15 gift card and bottle of wine just for you! They’re also selling gift cards for the soon-to-be-open Rosso.
- In the mood to donate? Epworth Children’s Home can always use your time or money. Hep out if you can!

Look of the Week!

The Look of the Week was spotted at the VanJean sale, where the Shop Tart “saved” $900. Practically all of the Fall and Winter merchandise is 30, 50 or 75 percent off. Fun! Like Kicks, VanJean is offering a holiday wish list service. Make your list and they’ll contact the gift giver of your choice and offer free delivery and gift wrapping. The Shop Tart thinks this should be her gift to Mr. Shop Tart. Isn’t she sweet?
Susan Menge, a fashion merchandising major at USC, has been working at VanJean since high school. She recently interned at Globe Showroom in New York. Globe represents several designers found at VanJean, including Elijah, Manoush, Camilla Marc, James Coviello and (new!) Shop Tart favorite Falls. Her top is vintage Tibi, if you consider last year vintage. Her jeans are wide leg by Tory Burch. The coat, which isn’t Susan’s (yet?), is Phillip Lim. It could be yours, though! Originally $718, it’s on sale for $359. The Shop Tart thinks gold brocade is a great take on a classic trench.
Her gloves, which are too fabulous not to have their own closeup, are also Phillip Lim and marked down 30%. Maybe Mr. Shop Tart will get them for his wife for Christmas. If only he read her blog… They also come in a short version, in black.
VanJean and Pout are closed today, but will open on Friday. The Shop Tart thinks you should get in there and take advantage of the amazing sale. Mwah!

If you thought you felt a chill yesterday, you were right. It was the coldest November 18th in recorded history, according to that cute Brooks Garner. Maybe you need a new sweater or three to combat that chill. And a pretty jacket or cape to layer over it. M Boutique, home of high fashion priced for normal budgets, is the place to go, especially today and tomorrow. They’re having a two-day sale - 20% off everything, including denim. With oodles of sweaters priced under $100 (even less with the discount!), M Boutique is the Shop Tart’s pick for today.
It was also her pick yesterday, for the Look of the Week! Andrea Coe, Charlotte native and recent graduate of USC, is one of owner Emily’s favorite employees. She keeps her girlish figure by waiting tables at the Publick House (which, incidentally, has possibly the finest salad in all of Columbia. Try it with the lemon pepper tilapia!) With her brand new degree in Fashion Merchandising, though, Andrea’s looking to consolidate and narrow it down to one 9 to 5 gig (or 8 to 6!) If you need a fab new employee, stop by M or the pub and say hello. Without further ado, here she is. The dress, inspired by Sex and the City (trés Charlotte, played by local girl Kristin Davis), has an adorable bow in the front that doesn’t quite show up in the picture. Sheath dresses are universally flattering, n’est-ce pas? The cape, lined in fun black and white satin, is the perfect thing to keep your shoulders warm without messing up the line of your outfit. The Shop Tart insisted on showing that bag, which may or may not match the outfit, depending on who you ask, because it’s only $86! Someone do the math - quick - 20% off of $86 is…practically free, for a bag.
Andrea’s boots save the outfit from being entirely too girly. Love them! Now, the Shop Tart has a few suggestions on how to use that 20% off. This black vest sweater is too cute.
Here’s another great bag, and that tunic would look great with leggings and flats, or boots or jeans.
And no shop carries more color than M, so don’t be drab. Add some bright tops or a dress to your winter wardrobe!
In other news…
- Don’t forget to make a stop at Bohemian and Bohemian Home from 6 to 9 pm to enjoy a night of food, wine and fun. There will be a wine tasting at Bohemian Home and beauty consultations at Bohemian. And…discounts of 20-75% at both stores. The Shop Tart loves food, wine, discounts and beauty stuff, don’t you? Bohemian has more fun discounts planned for December. Don’t forget they have fab clothes for fellas, too!
- Just the Thing wants to help you accessorize all of your holiday looks and save on chic gifts for all your girlfriends. They’re offering 20% off today and tomorrow.
- The Devine Street Merchants want you to make a donation to Epworth Children’s Home. Visit any participating merchant, make your donation and you’ll be entered to win a fabulous prize!Even if you don’t win, you’ll get a tax deduction for the donation - and we can all use that, n’est-ce pas?
- Ross Holmes will be at Dianne’s tonight, starting at 7:30. Sounds like a great place to go after the Bohemian event. Lorrie Rivers returns to Dianne’s Friday night.
- Unforgettable Jewelry, a new Devine Street shop, is having a Grand Opening celebration on Saturday. Go take a look!

Look of the Week!
Filed Under Good Cause!, Look of the Week, Sip and Shop | 1 Comment
So here it is…the Look of the Week. Which was actually spotted last week, at the Contemporaries’ Artist of the Year event. And it’s actually three Looks of the Week. Or four. The Shop Tart spotted these three lovely ladies and begged to take their picture. Good looking ladies tend to be really good sports about having their picture taken and these three were no exception. And their friend, the enthusiastic Bruce Lawrence, jumped in the shot. Although the Shop Tart is not in the habit of bestowing the honor of Look of the Week on men, it’s high time. And Bruce looked good so, as they say in the movies, the kid stays in the picture!
So, here we go, from left to right (ladies first). Lindsay Wright, Project Manager at the South Carolina Policy Council, is wearing a gorgeous paisley dress from Mary and tall black boots. Katie Nance, Public Relations Specialist at Chernoff Newman, is in the fab brown wrap dress by BCBG, de rigeur animal print scarf and yummy brown boots. Debbie Parker, Program Director for the Conservation Voters of South Carolina, is rocking a stunning emerald green top, gray boot cut pants with a slight sheen and black peep toe heels. Love her big beads! The Shop Tart thinks all three ladies did a fab job with the work-to-party look. And work they do - look at those jobs! Professionals are getting younger and younger - the Shop Tart, who was a lot less accomplished in her youth than these ladies, is very impressed.
Although she was far too polite to ask their ages, the Shop Tart would estimate them somewhere between fresh out of college and thirty. That can be a difficult time in fashion for a woman. It can be hard to make the transition from club wear to grown-up party clothes, without veering into frumpy territory. So, if you need three excellent examples of exactly how to do it, see the above photo.
Wait, make that four examples. Bruce, Development Director at Conservation Voters of South Carolina, looks pretty darn sharp, n’est-ce pas? Although she isn’t sure where Bruce got his shirt, the Shop Tart has seen similar at Max and Prissy - traditional button downs made from fab fabric. The well-cut jeans and blazer look is a classic and the Shop Tart was very impressed with his shoes. In fact, she wishes he would give Mr. Shop Tart some advice in the shoe department…
In other news…
- Today and tomorrow, help Just the Thing celebrate a 6th Anniversary. Enjoy a glass of wine between 5 and 7 pm and shop for all the accessories you need to perfect your holiday party looks. The Shop Tart never ceases to be amazed by how much there is to see at Just the Thing. And the prices make it easy to go nuts!
- You have just four more days to take advantage of VanJean’s coat drive - it ends Saturday. Bring a gently used coat to donate and receive 25% off any new coat in the shop. And thank you to Ed Robinson’s Cleaners for cleaning the coats for free!
- Through Thanksgiving, get 30% off your purchase of Fall shoes and boots at Kicks when you bring in two (or more!) canned goods for Harvest Hope Food Bank. They have some brand new Claudia Ciuti…

- Weathers of Columbia is having a sale. They’re offering 25% off, well, lots of stuff! For example…the entire inventory of leather coats and outerwear, all Pal Zileri suits and sport coats, all Hiltl casual slacks, select sweaters, sport shirts and knits and select shoes. Sounds like a great time to find that perfect holiday gift for your honey…or yourself if you are one of the few, the proud, the male readers of the Shop Tart. Mwah!
