Mr. Shop Tart has been listening to his wife. He celebrated her birthday last evening with an all-local dinner, including a delicious salad made with vegetables from City Roots, Columbia’s newest in-town sustainable farm, and her favorite vinaigrette from Moe’s Grapevine. He also served a redonkulously delicious butternut squash lasagna from Spotted Salamander.

Birthday dinner!

Dessert? Oh, yes, dessert. A lemon poppy seed “Church Lady” cake from Spotted Salamander. So good the Shop Tart ate two pieces. Yum!

Happy Birthday to me!

Happy Sunday!

P.S. The Shop Tart realizes this post may be confusing to some, as her own birthday is listed on her Facebook page as April 10th. Today’s post refers to her alter-ego’s birthday. And, yes, she realizes the pronouns are a bit off. But not really, since I am the one who writes about her, so it really is Happy Birthday to me. Both the Shop Tart and I are a bit nuts. Mwah!

    Happy birthday!!!Enjoy “your” party tonight!
I had some of those sunflower sprouts from City Roots last week–all they had left by 10AM at the All Local Market, so y’all have to get there really a lot earlier–or maybe y’all did and that’s why they were picked clean. I had their lettuce before, and it is awesome, so I tried the sprouts–no roots on them, and they are very clean to begin with and were easy to rinse again (sprouts can harbor some nasty bacteria). They taste slightly of mild cabbage or not-tangy arugula, and add the nicest crunch!
