On Thursday, the Shop Tart attended a lovely soiree to celebrate Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands’ 100 Day Difference. It’s always inspiring to be surrounded by people who support a cause that really matters and Thursday was no exception. The Shop Tart enjoyed chatting so much, she kind of forgot to eat (a very, very rare occurrence). Lucky for her, Rosso was nearby and she had been wanting to try their Boulevardier, which she read about in last week’s Free Times cover story, 11 Cocktails We Love: The Rise of the Restaurant Bar. Who doesn’t love a good mixologist?

But she ended up not ordering the Boulevardier, going with the Fistful of Dollars — a stunning combination of Bulleit Rye, Cynar, Cherry Heering and St. Elizabeth’s Allspice Dram. The Shop Tart loves a good, bitter cocktail and this one did not disappoint. Yum!

Rosso's Boulevardier.

She also loves friends who know what they want. One of her table mates requested — and was granted — a plate of fries covered in cheese and marinara. Pizza fries! Perché no?

Pizza fries? At Rosso.

The Shop Tart ordered her truffle fries straight up. Delicious!

Rosso.

She had also been wanting to try another Free Times recommendation, the salmon carpaccio, and it was heaven.

The Shop Tart does not like to waste good sauce. If she anticipates any delicious sauce that won’t have any food to use as a vehicle, she always orders a pile of greens, preferably arugula. Arugula is great as a cold salad base, but equally delicious wilted in a warm sauce. The lemon parsley crema and extra virgin olive oil left on the carpaccio plate were delicious carried by arugula.

Do you have any restaurant quirks? In addition to a pile of arugula, the Shop Tart also likes her water with little to no ice. (Ideally, there is chilled water on the table. Hooray!) She also usually asks for hot sauce, chili flakes, or something else to spice up her meal. How about you? Any requests?

In my humble opinion, the best bartender (mixologist) in Columbia is at Motor Supply.
