The Shop Tart is not a planner. In fact, she has no plans for Valentine’s Day, other than to attend the DDRC meeting and hear what everyone has to say about the potential use of the historical Palmetto Compress building. (The Shop Tart has not developed a definite opinion, but she is really leaning towards, “Hey! We can do way better with a mad cool historical building that’s an important part of Columbia’s history than the behemoth-like student housing building that’s been proposed! And why do students need luxury housing anyway? Back in my day, we had formica counters and linoleum in the kitchen.” She plans to develop this opinion after she hears what everyone has to say.) Photo of the Palmetto Compress building below, ripped from Free Times, by Jonathan Sharpe, because he takes mad cool photos.

But it’s Valentine’s Day, so she may get out and about with Mr. Shop Tart after that. They will probably eat at home, since the likelihood of getting into a restaurant is pretty slim. (Want to celebrate the big day at a restaurant in relative peace? You should have gone last weekend, but you can still reserve for this weekend, when many restaurants will continue to offer special V-Day menus. We love a special menu!) Or, you could enter to win some tickets for one of two cool events right here!

Casablanca!

The folks at the Harbison Theatre are spending Valentine’s Day in Casablanca. At least, they’re showing the movie. Have you seen it? The Shop Tart has recently learned that some people haven’t. That’s weird! Anyhow, see it for the first time, or see it again. The $12 admission price includes movie viewing in a beautiful, comfortable theater, and a little Champagne and dessert in the lobby before the movie. Or you could win a pair of tickets right here (read on to find out how).

Casablanca!

The Shop Tart would like to put in a word here about partying on Valentine’s Day all by yourself. She and Mr. Shop Tart see each other all the time, so she doesn’t see any need to make this one day a big deal. She does, however, like Casablanca, Champagne, and dessert, so if he can’t make it, that won’t stop her!

Henderson Bros. Burlesque at What’s Love!

Party on, V-Day partiers! this is definitely one you can attend on your own, with a crew, or with your lovah.

Henderson Bros. Burlesque.

What’s Love is a grand Valentine’s Day tradition in Columbia and the Shop Tart will definitely be popping in to say hello and has a good feeling she’ll end up staying later, because it’s always a good time. The Henderson Bros. Burlesque show is only part of the entertainment. From the Facebook event page:

OK! So here is how this goes. What’s Love is shaking things up this year with a totally different experience for Valentine’s. At 701 Whaley — from 6 to 6:45 — Lorine DeMint (Larry Hembree) will be hosting speed dating in the market space with a bar for libations. (She doesn’t approve.) The Sideshow Lounge in the main building is also open at 6 for wine and beer, before and after your show. It features a collaboration art piece by Whitney LeJeune and Cedric Umoja, as well as Lyon Hill. If you’ve bought advanced tickets — make note if it’s for the 8 pm or the 10 pm show. Henderson Bros Burlesque runs about an hour and 15 minutes and is sexy, bawdy and tantalizingly entertaining! You can hang out in the Sideshow Lounge before and after your show AND check out Wade Sellers’s Peep Show upstairs.

You can buy tickets online at trustus.org or in person at Revente, Sid & Nancy, or Bombshell in 5 Points. Tickets also may be purchased at the door. Your ticket includes entrance to the Lounge and to either the 8pm or the 10pm show. Peep show upstairs is $2…..Don’t sit home alone this Valentine’s!

What’s Love this year is Henderson Bros Burlesque!

So…you ready to party? Because Thursday is a great day to party.

How do you win these tickets? Well, the Shop Tart has a pair to give away to each event, so you can take a friend. In the comments section below, leave a comment, any comment, but begin your comment with “BURLESQUE” or “CASABLANCA.” You can enter to win both, though if you win one, you will not be eligible in the drawing for the other. You will also need to leave two separate comments, one for each event. If you Tweet this post, you will get an extra entry (limit one extra entry per person). Make sure to tag @theshoptart so she’ll know you did it. She will post a link to this post on Facebook — share that post to get another extra entry. Winners will be chosen at random and announced around lunchtime tomorrow. Yeah!

Happy Almost Thursday and don’t forget to tell them you read it on the Shop Tart!
