You do, of course. And the Shop Tart has a pretty big deal giveaway today. She has two tickets to Saturday’s World Beer Festival. You could win them. Not only would you get to go and sample from a selection of more than 150 beers from 70 different breweries, you could take a friend! You could be your friend’s hero!
Check out the lineup of beers. That’s a lot of beer, yo! There will also be experts on hand to give actual presentations about beer. (Which means that you can totally refer to this as an intellectual, academic pursuit.) The experts:
- A Guided Tour of Ales and Lagers (1 and 7 pm) by Gerald Jowers, beer columnist for Columbia’s Free Times and BJCP Certified Beer Judge. “Beer used to be synonymous with a single style — pale international lager. Today, there are dozens of different styles on the shelves, interpreted by hundreds of brands. Don’t be confused! This presentation will introduce you to the diversity of beer and help you get the most out of the samples you try at the World Beer Festival.”
- Charleston Beer (2 and 8 pm) by Timmons Pettigrew, founder and editor of CHSBeer.com and author of Charleston Beer: A High-Gravity History of Lowcountry Brewing
“Join Timmons Pettigrew as he gives a brief historical overview of brewing in Charleston (up through Prohibition) and discusses the contemporary brewing community. You’ll learn about the fascinating history, modern breweries and atypical beer laws of South Carolina, all while sampling beers from the lowcountry.”
- Beer Amongst the Belgians (3 and 9 pm) by Taylor Brush, independent documentary filmmaker and producer of Beer Amongst the Belgians “Taylor Brush is an American independent documentary filmmaker living in Belgium who is currently directing and producing a six-part series on Belgian beer, history and culture that is hosted by internationally renowned beer writer Tim Webb. Brush will present an introduction to Belgian beer and how this small European country came to brew the best beer in the world. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore some of the best beers from Belgium as Brush guides you through the country’s rich beverage culture.”
Green’s will host a sampling area featuring unique and rare beers available at Green’s. Some of your favorite local restaurants will be there selling food to help soak up the beer. Look for Blue Marlin, New York’s Famous Hot Dogs, Breaker’s Bar & Grill, J Gumbo’s, Village Idiot Pizza, The Oak Table, and Wet Willy’s. (Wait. Wet Willy’s has food? We thought it was just a slushee type thing. Learn something new every day!)
So, what are you waiting for? Enter below to win two tickets. Leave a comment — any comment will do, but the Shop Tart would love to know your favorite beer. To kick things off, and make sure you understand that there is no wrong answer, she will admit that she really, really loves an ice cold Natty Light, if the situation calls for it.
Good luck! And if you don’t win? Get your tickets here. A winner will be chosen at random on Friday, probably around lunch time. You get an extra entry (limit one extra entry per person) if you tweet a link to this post or share it on Facebook. Make sure you tag the Shop Tart so she knows you did it!
For now, please enjoy one of the Shop Tart’s favorite jams to rock out to while drinking beer. (Shop Tart Tip: Always dance at parties. It will help you metabolize alcohol and it will keep you from hanging at the bar and drinking too much. You may be tired the next day, but you won’t be sick! If no one else is dancing, surreptitiously whip out your iPod and play the Electric Slide. People will be forced to dance.)
Happy Sipping and don’t forget to tell them you read it on the Shop Tart!

This would be amazing to win! We have 2 kids under 3 who have recently decided to NEVER sleep! Drinking beer is a distant memory and it’s my husband’s favorite! We literally would drink anything at this point. I know my husband loves “whit beers”. And I love pretty much anything that isn’t too dark.
This is a tough one, but I think my favorite goes back to my Asheville roots. Highland Brewing Company creates a winter seasonal that comes out at the end of November called Cold Mountain. It must be consumed on tap, because it brings out a smooth vanilla after taste. One of a kind!
I would love to drink a beer or 9! I’m a huge fan good beer. I’m a huge fan of Highland Gaelic Ale, Cold Mountain and their Oatmeal Porter. New South out of Myrtle Beach has a good nut brown (in a can) and Abita has a awesome strawberry beer but it’s out of season now.
The Tumbler from Sierra Nevada!

Shiner Bock’s a classic!
I like beer…and I like festivals, especially with beer! Oh, and Heineken Light is so underestimated.

My go-to is a brown ale, like Newcastle or Samuel Smith.
I sure would like to win, and I am on the look out for a beer called Sakara. I have seen it online and would like to know where I could get it from.

There is NO bad beer!! I would love two free tickets!!
I don’t drink, but my bf would be be thrilled if I won these tickets!!
After spending last summer in London, I have a completely new appreciation for beer. My favorite beers are actually at a tie between 1664(French) and Peroni(Italian). And of course I can always go for a nice Stella Artois. My boyfriend’s (we actually met while we were in London) birthday is this Sunday so winning these tickets would be an amazing way for us to relive our summer, and also give him an awesome gift!!
I am well known for my Natty purchases at the Publix
)
Do you think they’ll serve my favorite Miller High Life? After all, it is the champagne of beers…
RJ Rockers Impeachment is my favorite beer for spring and summer!
In my opinion, you can never go wrong with a good ole PBR!
