La famille is ringing in the New Year at Disney World, at the Polynesian Resort, pretty much the Shop Tart’s favorite place on earth. They arrived yesterday and — to be perfectly honest — the Shop Tart pretty much has the flu. BUT THAT WILL NOT STOP HER. She obtained a mug of chicken soup and watched the sunset. (It’s true what everyone says about the staff here being ridiculously nice. No one made her feel one bit whiny for chasing down the chicken soup. And she was being kind of a brat about it.) The King Kamehameha Club at the Polynesian is lovely, and stocked with food and drinks — including wine, hot herbal tea, and Diet Coke, all necessities at the moment — all day long.

Chicken soup acquired. Now I get to drink it with this view. (Can you see the castle? Way in the distance? I flippin' love it here!)

(Wondering if the added price of staying club level at the Polynesian is worth it? That depends. If you like to have a drink or two in the evening, and constant access to good coffee, tea, and sodas, it might be. Those things are included. Also, they offer a constant stream of free food, including a breakfast that could definitely save you money and time. There is always fresh fruit and the evening buffet could pass as dinner if you really didn’t want to do any more. It’s also a great way to feed the kids a small meal in advance of a late dinner reservation. Your mileage may vary, but all those incidentals add up, and staying club level can help.)

The next day, they started with breakfast at ‘Ohana, joined by Lilo, Stitch, Mickey Mouse, and Pluto.

Yeaaahhhh!

They headed back to their rooms to prepare for their day and found towel animals!

Towel animals!

Forewarned that the Magic Kingdom would be insanely busy, they decided to spend the day at Animal Kingdom. One of the highlights of the Tank’s day was being buried in the sand at the Boneyard in DinoLand USA.

An LSU Tiger helped me cover the Tank in sand.

One of the highlights of his mother’s day was a double soup lunch at Yak and Yeti. She started with a delicious wonton soup and finished the meal with Malaysian seafood curry, which was a bit on the salty side, but she’s dehydrated and probably needs to retain a little water.

Yak and Yeti. Disney World's Animal Kingdom.

At the moment, she is resting up, chock full of Robitussin purchased right here at the resort, in anticipation of tonight’s dinner at Epcot. Nothing will rain on her Disney parade!

(You know what would have been nice, though? If she had read this post on xoJane.com. Because a fanny pack would be really helpful, since she needs her hands to hold her constant beverages and the layers she has to peel off when she feels too feverish.)

Happy New Year and don’t forget to tell them you read it on the Shop Tart!
