Tied up in knots.

At last week’s USC Fashion Week event at the Columbia Museum of Art — a talk by Hunter Bell of Hunter Dixon and VanJean’s Hunter Dixon Pop Up Shop — the Shop Tart saw a belt she had to have. Here it is…

Hunter Dixon belt from VanJean.

She’s pretty much worn it every day since, because it somehow goes with everything. See? (Picture below from Melissa Blanchard’s Instagram.)

Anyhow, you’ll be seeing a lot of that belt this spring. It also comes in gray and ivory, which the Shop Tart did not need, because she inherited these from her mother. (Inherited may be the wrong word. She found them in the dress-up drawer and her mother said she could have them. They may or may not have been purchased at Pat’s Place in Columbia Mall in the early eighties.)

Mom's belts.

The Shop Tart has another belt of her mother’s. This one came from the Lily Gilder — anyone remember that one? — and the Shop Tart coveted it throughout her adolescence.

It reminds her of this 3.1 Phillip Lim gown VanJean had two years ago.

But the belt. When she was allowed to borrow it, the Shop Tart wore it with a pair of wide legged, pale blue trousers and a billowy white blouse. This look — which she imagined made her look like the ladies on Dallas — was possibly a bit beyond her years, but she loved it. The Shop Tart pulled out the belt — along with a Sylvia Heisel dress and Rebecca Taylor Blazer — for last Friday’s Contemporaries’ Artist of the Year party. (Pre-party pic to let her sis know what she was wearing.)

In more knotty news, the Shop Tart has also been way into her gold sailor’s knot necklace by the Heart Bead.

And this 3.1 Phillip Lim belt — which came with a dress the Shop Tart hasn’t worn in a year — is a long-time favorite.

And remember those gold knot earrings from the eighties? They were awesome. The Shop Tart scored a modern looking pair by Garnish on her last trip to New York City. Every knot is different. The Shop Tart pretty much wears these every day.

So, is the Shop Tart the only person who’s into this knot thing?
