Recently, the Shop Tart decided to have her wedding gown re-made to wear to the Art Museum’s Soirée du Soleil. She took it to the famous and much-revered Juanita who was highly recommended by two local experts - AnnaBelle of LaRoque and Frenchie of Frenchie Skirts. And if they don’t know, who would? When she arrived at Juanita’s, after popping a few yummy Jordan Almonds from a dish in the waiting room into her mouth, the Shop Tart went to Juanita’s office to try on her dress. The dress was not specifically a wedding gown; it was an evening gown from Coplon’s. When she looked in the mirror, she had doubts. Her gown seemed perfect as it was. Not one to shy away from change, she still sought Juanita’s counsel. Upon viewing the dress, the famous couturière declared it to be just perfect. She said she wouldn’t change a thing. The Shop Tart realized, in that moment, how much she loved her gown and that the only reason she wanted a change was because it felt like a wedding dress to her, because she wore it to, um, her wedding. So, her evening gown from Coplon’s - the nicest one she has ever owned and perhaps the only thing she ever bought full-price from there - remains intact and lovely. All she needs to do is take it to Ed Robinson’s for pressing - wouldn’t trust anyone else! - and choose some non-wedding-y accessories.

She wishes she could borrow the H. Stern diamond cuff Renee Zellweger is wearing on the cover of Marie Claire’s UK edition this month, but suspects they won’t lend it to her.

Mary in Five Points, however, has fab feathered headbands, much less expensive than the cuff, for sure. The Shop Tart bought this one, but will probably go back for one with peacock feathers once they get a new shipment.

Love this pretty feathered hair clip, too:

In fact, Mary has quite a few fab accessories at wallet-friendly prices for spring, so you should definitely stop in for a look. And don’t we love this pretty top? It could be dressed up with a cocktail skirt or dessed down with white jeans and dark brown sandals. And it was less than $100.

This top was more than $100, but totally rocks. Perhaps you would like to buy it for the Shop Tart?

Looking to add color without making a big commitment? Why not snap up two or six of these light spring scarves?

And one more thing. We are in love with these flats and think we would wear them all the time, with everything from dresses to jeans to shorts.

Hooray for spring!

  • Simply Savory’s free wine tasting is going on today from 4:30 to 6:30 pm, always a good time. And, as a mother of three who is occasionally too tipsy busy to cook, the Shop Tart is thrilled to announce that Simply Savory now offers meat or spinach lasagna to take home. You can even pretend you made it. Who will know?
  • Climb on up to KD’s Treehouse! In addition to the current lines they carry - Kate Quinn Organics, Under the Nile, speesees, PlanToys and their own private label - they now offer Happy Green Bee, Pixel Organics and Putumayo Kids. • Don’t forget to register: Owner and shoe goddess Jackie Howie of Kicks founded Get in the Pink to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of her shops. On May 9th, Get in the Pink will host three fab events: The Stiletto Sprint (men welcome), a 10K road race and Soirée on the Saluda. All proceeds from the day benefit the American Cancer Society. The Shop Tart will be there to cheer the runners and she will certainly toast them at the soirée that evening!
  • Terra has new specials for spring - we love how they go for fresh, local and in-season ingredients. The Shop Tart can’t wait to try the Crispy Wil-Moore Farms Chicken with asparagus, fingerling potatoes, wild mushrooms and asparagus coulis. Wil-Moore Farms chicken is local and free range and the asparagus is the first of the season. Hope it’s warm enough on Saturday to eat on the patio - one of the Shop Tart’s favorite outdoor dining spots.
  • Lorrie Rivers will perform at Dianne’s tonight. Fab music and a fab dinner - sounds like date night!

Happy Shopping and don’t forget to tell them you read it on the Shop Tart!

P.S. For the curious, in case you won’t be at the Museum party, this is the dress, worn by a very young Shop Tart.
