Fresh start.

The Shop Tart’s holiday season continues through January, when she celebrates her birthday and anniversary. While most people like to detox at the start of the new year, the Shop Tart just can’t, as there are too many non-detoxy occasions. So, February it is. Yesterday, she started a one-week detox diet - no bubbly, no gluten, no sugar, no dairy, no processed food and, worst of all, no caffeine. The caffeine deprivation is killing her, which is only a very slight exaggeration. Those other things, she doesn’t have every single day, all day long. Coffee and Diet Coke, however, are the cornerstones of her diet. Waaahhhhh! So, on to the fun part of detoxing…

Facials and massages! As you know, because she bragged about it yesterday, the Shop Tart had a divine massage on Saturday. Yesterday, instead of sipping coffee like she usually does, she met Shannon at Pout for a detoxifying facial. This was not her first visit to the talented Shannon, so she knew she could expect to leave with smooth skin and a little glow. The Shop Tart doesn’t believe in facials that leave you red-faced and raw, as if you need to abuse the skin to whip it into shape. Shannon’s facials are gentle, yet the effects last and last. The last time the Shop Tart had one, she went an entire month with no breakouts. Coincidence? Don’t think so!

Every facial at Pout is tailored to your needs, so there’s no way to describe exactly what happens. Shannon can do everything from masks to micro-dermabrasion. The Shop Tart is a real fan of micro-current therapy, which instantly stimulates and tones the skin. Perhaps you would like to buy her this $650 micro-current machine to use at home? It actually works. Really.

Nu Face

If you aren’t quite ready to make that investment or if you just want the occasional toning - say, when you have to be a bridesmaid in your 23 year-old sister’s wedding alongside her 23 year-old bridesmaids and you are much older than 23 - Shannon can add it to your facial for much, much less than $650. Or a few of us could go in on the machine together, so we could use it every day.

The facial isn’t all business, by the way. While her face was covered in various masks, Shannon gave the Shop Tart a lovely massage for her hands, shoulders and feet. Much better than when the esthetician simply leaves the room to go make her grocery list. A Pout facial is all about you, which is right up the Shop Tart’s narrow, self-centered alley.

As expected, she left with a pretty glow and clean skin. All she needed to face the world was a little Stila Hair Refresher and a swipe or three of mascara and lipstick. Yet another bonus of the Pout facial is that you really can do it on your (long) lunch-hour, because they have all the products you need to freshen up and head back to work looking well-rested and fabulous!

And now the Shop Tart might need to head to Soak to detox her nails, then go shopping to detox her closet and fill it with fresh clothes for spring…must be thorough!
