A long, long time ago, when the original 90210 was popular*, the Shop Tart read a blurb in some magazine or another that said all the young celebs, including Tori Spelling, were shying away from bold nail polish and using more natural colors, including Tori’s favorite, “Natural Pink” by Chanel. The Shop Tart rushed right out and bought it. She was faithful for many years. Sure, there were times when she wanted a bolder look, and she indulged, but Natural Pink was her standard. One of the first things she sees in her wedding pictures is the subtle glow of Natural Pink. With just a swipe, it made her nails look clean and sophisticated, the white crescents at the tips whiter. You’re probably planning on rushing out and buying it right now, aren’t you? Well, allow the Shop Tart to save you a trip to the mall…because they discontinued it. Why? Who knows. And who cares, because the Shop Tart was at Pout the other day, reminiscing about the loss of her favorite polish** and Lisa Seth showed her another color, a color so similar as to be indistinguishable from her beloved Natural Pink.
The color is Baby Love, from the Lippmann Collection. Lisa herself was a fan of Natural Pink, so she understood the Shop Tart’s pain. She’d been burned before, by other polishes that looked right in the bottle, but transformed on her nails, so the Shop Tart wasn’t ready to let herself feel joy. She rushed home and tried it and decided to feel tentatively joyous when it appeared to be the same. She was tentative because, in the past, she’s had some near successes with polishes that looked good in the bottle, looked good on her nails and turned yellow after a day. Guess what? Drum roll…Baby Love is still gorgeous after three days!
Why such an obsession over a neutral polish? Well, neutrals are perfect because they last and last, giving your nails a professional look long after other colors or even a bare nail would let you down. Little chips don’t show. A pedicure can last for weeks. A manicure? Not so much. Natural shades will often last until the nails grow and you have to re-apply. Besides, if neutrals weren’t important, why would the Lippmann Collection have so many? Hm?
Baby Love, by the way, is the one in the picture above with no spare bottles behind it. Lisa has assured the Shop Tart (who scored the last bottle - hooray!) that she’s ordering more. You might want to put your name on the call list for its arrival. While you’re at it, you might want to put your name on the Tarte 4 Day Stay list. It’s sold out again, on back order everywhere, and the Shop Tart can’t recommend it highly enough!
Neutral isn’t always the right choice for nails, so please be assured that there are plenty of other fab colors in the Lippmann Collection. The polish is great - it goes on smooth and doesn’t seem to chip easily. And…psssst…it’s even a few dollars cheaper than Chanel…
In other news…
- VanJean’s Dirty Thirty Party is today! Happy Birthday Allison and Susan!!
Happy Shopping!
* The Shop Tart has no intention of telling you whether she watched it with full, pre-teen enthusiasm or irony.
** Yes, it has been years, and yes, the Shop Tart still reminisces. But no more!
