The Shop Tart is a lucky woman, because Glow closed just after she had her last child. But it isn’t all about her, now is it? Other ladies keep having babies and they need lovely maternity clothes. During her last pregnancy, the Shop Tart went all out. She had regular massages and acupuncture, she spent no less than $40 a week on organic berries and she refused to wear any maternity clothing that didn’t make her look and feel great (or at least feel like she looked great). During her first two pregnancies, she was in denial. She convinced herself she could “make do” with those horrible panel pants and her husband’s Brooks Brothers button-downs. This last time, she absolutely loved her maternity clothes, even the ones for exercise, which made her want to wear them…so she actually exercised and felt great. Funny how clothes can do that.

She found that the higher end maternity clothes fit better. The pants didn’t slide down her hips and the fabrics didn’t trap heat. So where can you, dear expectant reader, find these lovely treasures? At Lula Bloom in Aiken, only about an hour from downtown Columbia. They carry loads of fabulous maternity brands, like Olian, Maternal America, Ripe, and Habitual Jeans. Right now, all of their spring and summer things are on sale, up to 60% off. And some of the fall styles are 20-50% off. Sounds like a good time to stock up!

Owner Susan Dannelly-Lacy says if you mention that you saw Lula Bloom on the Shop Tart, you’ll get an extra 10% discount. If you want to save gas and you bring a friend, she’ll give you an extra 15% off. You might be able to get your entire maternity wardrobe in one trip. If you can’t stand the idea of sitting in the car at all, contact Susan (803.649.7688), who visits Columbia often. She’ll be happy to bring some things up for you to try! The Shop Tart loves shopping locally owned businesses for the personal service, don’t you?

Lula Bloom has more than just maternity clothes. They have children’s clothing, including Shop Tart favorite, the super soft-stretchy-cute Petit Bateau. Also available are Hotlsings at 30% off and Petunia Cake Collection Diaper bags at 25% off. Lula Bloom carries the new Orbit Stroller Travel system - a celebrity favorite!

To make your trip even more worthwhile, stop by Kicks of Aiken, owned by Kristi (a recent Shop Tart Look of the Week and former employee of Kicks in Columbia) Susan tells the Shop Tart that Kristi is having a huge sale on shoes right now. If you’re a cook, stop by Plum Pudding, an excellent kitchen store.

The Shop Tart bets there’s a fabulous little lunch place somewhere nearby. If you find it, take pictures and report back!
