Two young ladies, leaving M Boutique:
“We’ll be back later. We’re trying to learn restraint.”
“It’s not really working!”
The Shop Tart understands. How is restraint possible when Columbia is filled with so many lovely things? The other day, she went into M.C Interiors Forty-One. She had to be dragged out to avoid buying everything there. She stopped in because an exquisite chandelier in the window caught her eye. A chandelier that she cannot have, because it’s spoken for and, let’s be honest here, her mean, mean husband would probably say no. It’s not as if the Shop Tart needs a chandelier (although it would be a lovely way to define her entrance area!), but this was a work of art. According to Marnie Clayton (one of the “M.C.’s” - the other is Margaret Carter), the chandelier was created by a jewelry designer. With red birds perched amidst delicate white glass flowers and randomly placed bulbs, it looks like a gorgeous piece of jewelry for the ceiling . The Shop Tart tried to snap a picture, but couldn’t capture the beauty. You’ll have to see it for yourself.
Once she started snapping pictures, though, she couldn’t stop until they threatened to call the police. Well, they didn’t really threaten, but the Shop Tart didn’t want to overstay her welcome. Take a look at these photos and just try to talk about restraint!
Just look at that chair (the fabric was a pale grey lavender). And the pillows. And the dresser (that color!). And the light fixtures (capable of redefining a room)… Speaking of redefining a room, how about the gorgeous pillow seen below or the wooden piece next to it?
The shop was filled to bursting with things anyone would love to come home to. There were also several less expensive, but extremely stylish pieces that would make great gifts, like a long marble trivet with distressed iron handles that could hold several small dishes or one large one. The two M.C’s have a truly original style and the Shop Tart loves it! They’re experienced interior designers, so they can share that style with you. The Shop Tart may be biased, because she was lured in by the chandelier, but they seem to have a knack for choosing fabulous light fixtures. And chairs…and pillows..and, well, everything else!
Here’s the thing. The place is kind of a secret. Can you believe they don’t have a website or even an online phone listing? The Shop Tart can: it’s further evidence of their amazing and exclusive style. They’re located at 3146 Carlisle Street, off Millwood Avenue near the Mad Platter. And they’re only open on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Très chic, n’est-ce pas?
